Copper oak leaf
This card features an original linocut print of oak leaves, hand drawn, carved and printed by me using Cranfield traditional relief ink in copper on 260gsm Fabriano Medioevalis cream paper. This card measures 130x170mm and has deckled edges. It comes with a matching envelope and is blank inside for your own message.
Many of my linoprints are inspired by nature and I particularly love the ways that leaves and flowers lend themselves to the structural nature of carving lino.
Oak leaves typically symbolise longevity and strength, fertility and power. No wonder they were sacred to gods like Zeus and Thor. Oak trees are also a fundamental part of deciduous woodland, feeding invertebrates, birds and mammals, and they can live for centuries. One such oak has marked the passage of time in Richmond Park for more than 750 years.
Printmaking with lino is a manual craft that requires specialist tools and inks. The nature of the process means that each card is slightly different and may feature some speckling in the ink. This is particularly true of this type of textured paper and is part of what makes this artform so beautiful. Please note there may be slight variations from the card in the photo.
I will post it in a compostable sleeve and board-backed envelope to protect it.
